I keep finding great sounding 1965 Deluxe Reverbs - not a bummer!  This one is particularly good sounding.

There are a couple distinctive features in this era during the transition from Fender ownership to CBS.  The chassis of the amp is zinc plated, which keeps it from oxidizing like later amps.  If you've ever looked inside a late 60s Deluxe you will see white, powdery dust build up.  These zinc plated chassis resist this form of oxidation and simply stay cleaner.  Another oddity is the information on the back panel.  CBS (Columbia Records) started changing graphics on the amp panels.  They printed a typo on a bunch of 1965 amps: "A Division of Colombia Records..."

In the world of nerdy collectors, these identifiers mean something, but in practical use situations what you want is an amp like this.  It runs perfectly and sounds better than most.  I am not typically someone who favors aftermarket speakers in my Deluxes, but the Altec 417-8C pairs perfectly.  I've much more often encountered JBLs in these amps, which I find to be too bright.  The efficiency of the Altec gives you a bit more volume and slightly more headroom before breakup, but it doesn't color the sound as much as a JBL and is pretty warm sounding.

On arrival, the power cable had already been updated, along with two of the filter caps.  I changed the other three out, sleeving them inside the old cap covers.

Everything else regarding the amp is original.  I'm going to leave it as such.  If a buyer would like me to update the bypass and bias caps, I can do so.

We tested all the tubes, cleaned the tube sockets and pots, and thoroughly tested the amp.  It is good to go!

We will ship the speaker separate from the amp so it does not cause harm to the baffle in shipment - something that can happen with a heavier speaker like this if the package is dropped in shipping.

Shipping policy:

When you purchase this item you are hereby agreeing to this shipping policy. We remove tubes from amps that could be damaged in shipping.  We remove heavy speakers from some amps so they don't damage baffles.  These cases result in multiple box shipments, and they require the buyer to do some assembly on delivery.  We do this because we have experienced shipping issues in the past, and this is our prevention measure.  Vintage amps are sold as-is because they can need service intermittently.  Everything is tested here in our shop on the way into our inventory, and again before shipping.  We will cover shipping damage, but we cannot be responsible for the failure of vintage components in 20-to-50-plus year old amps. Shipments will require signature on delivery, no exceptions.  If there is damage, the buyer must retain all packing materials intact and picture them immediately and send them to sales@maharsvintageguitars.com.  Less than 1% of our shipments are damaged in transit, and we are committed to making sure your item arrives safely, but we are taking these additional measures to make sure you are happy with your purchase.
