Hiwatt Custom 50 DR504 Head 1973

This Hiwatt Custom 50 DR504 head just got a full cap job in our shop.  It is running really strong and quiet, and sounding fat!

The amp is in excellent cosmetic condition.  The hit to the vintage value here is the changed power transformer.  In place of the original Partridge unit is a 1986 Drake transformer.  The output transformer is original, which is the part that actually affects the tone, whereas the power transformer does not (unless the wrong one is used).

These amps have their own "glassy" tone that gives you big, clear cleans and gnarly drive when the brilliant channel is pushed.  Humbuckers and P90s push them the most of course, and really make them shine.  Clean boost pedals are a great way to get a channel switching effect out of them but hitting the front end harder when engaged.

The amp is meticulously hand wired, and nearly the entire circuit is original with the exception of the filter caps and the bias cap - a maintenance plus.  The power cable has been changed.  It is strain relieved with zip ties so as to avoid drilling the chassis for a cable clamp.  

The tubes have been tested, resulting in the introduction of one new Sovtek 12AX7.  The rest of the tubes tested well and remain as they came to us.

We willl ship the amp in two boxes to protect the chassis from damage.  When shipped as one unit, the transformers can cause damage to the chassis if the package is dropped.  Some easy assembly will be required on arrival.
