This beautiful 1963 Gibson LG-1 has had some beneficial work professionally performed to make it a great player.
The guitar came in after untold years of storage with no use. There was a top crack, likely caused by pickguard shrinkage, from the edge of the fretboard extension to the bridge. Jeff Hoppe at South Sound Guitar Repairs did the work, very nicely securing the crack and making it virtually disappear without touching the original finish.
1963 Gibson guitars were originally fitted with a plastic bridge. No, not the saddle - the entire bridge! It was a tragic decision right off the bat, and over time it just got worse as the bridges distorted and warped. As you can imagine, a guitar with a plastic bridge also kind of sounds like trash!
Jeff fitted a very fine new rosewood bridge with a fixed and intonated, bone saddle. The guitar is greatly improved with this change.
The rest of the guitar is original and unrepaired. The finish is in excellent condition and the neck angle is right on. The fretboard is a nice, dark slab of Brazilian rosewood. The original frets are extremely clean as well.
The LG-1 isn't a boomer, but it does have a unique and very cool tone. Players do perform with them, but they're also excellent couch guitars.
The case is definitely period-correct. I's not so sure it is original, but it could be one that an original owner chose in place of other Gibson offerings, the standard being a chipboard case in black or with alligator covering.
