Gibson guitars from the early 70s, like this SG Standard, are sometimes tough to nail down to a particular year. The serial number on this guitar falls in a range that can be found on guitars made from 1970 to 1975.
This guitar has potentiometers that date to the 25th week of 1973, so it is either a 1973 or 1974. There were 322 SG Standards in this color made in 1973, and just over 30 made in 1974. The "tarback" pickups are original, standard issue for SGs from 1972 into the mid 80s.
The guitar is all original and plays perfectly. The frets are in excellent condition and are nowhere near needing a refret. The truss rod was checked to make sure there is room for future neck relief adjustment.
You can tell that the guitar has been played far less than most. The original stoptail bridge is a lightweight aluminum one (a desirable part!). There is some chrome missing and some oxidation on the original "harmonica" bridge.
The one small issue is a hairline crack that starts under the high E tuner and shows itself at the edge of the headstock (see the pics). The crack does not go all the way through to the face of the headstock and is extremely stable.
The original case is a rare, purple lined rectangle case that is in nice shape.
