Our good fortune continues in the area of vintage Gibson guitars, allowing us to bring you this highly desirable, clean, and amazing sounding 1964 Hummingbird.

This example is in excellent condition - much cleaner than most you'll see out there.  The frets show light wear.  The truss rod was checked to make sure there is room for future neck relief adjustments.  The guitar set up perfectly for us - it plays perfectly, and break angle over the saddle is just right.

The bridge is securely attached to the top and the pickguard is in excellent condition - issues you will see on other Hummingbirds are not present here!  There are no repairs or issues.  There is a strap button on the neck heel, but it is a vintage Gibson part, so perhaps it is original?

The original case is in fabulous shape, like the guitar.  This is a killer vintage package!

Gibson made 991 Hummingbirds in 1964, the last year before the transition to the narrower, 1 9/16" nut, and later, the slide into the terrible changes Gibson acoustics were subject to from 1968 into the 70s.

The Gibson Hummingbird stands as an iconic symbol of mid-20th-century American craftsmanship in acoustic guitars. Introduced in 1960, the Hummingbird quickly garnered a reputation for its distinct appearance and rich sound. By 1964, this model had established itself as a favorite among musicians across genres, noted for its versatility and vibrant tonal qualities.

The Hummingbird features a square-shouldered dreadnought body, a design that enhances its powerful sound projection. The top is made of solid Sitka spruce, paired with mahogany back and sides, which contribute to its warm, resonant tone with clear mid-range presence and strong bass. The guitar’s aesthetic appeal is heightened by its cherry sunburst finish, a unique and visually striking coloration that became a hallmark of the model.

Intricate details further elevate the Hummingbird's allure. The fretboard is adorned with mother-of-pearl parallelogram inlays, and the pickguard boasts an elaborate engraved hummingbird and flower motif, highlighting Gibson’s attention to fine craftsmanship. The rosewood bridge and adjustable saddle enhance the instrument’s playability and intonation, making it a preferred choice for both studio recordings and live performances.  The bridge is a huge part of the distinct tone of the model.

Renowned artists such as Keith Richards, Sheryl Crow, and Gram Parsons have been known to favor the Gibson Hummingbird, cementing its status in rock, country, and folk music. The 1964 model, in particular, is often sought after for its vintage appeal and the exceptional quality associated with Gibson's production during that era.
