This 1954 Martin 000-18 is a road warrior that has seen some play, some work, and it comes out the other side a killer player with beautiful tone that only vintage Martins produce.
Consistent, spirited play has added significant wear to the top, though it maintains its strength and structure. Amazingly, there appears to be just one small crack in the top, in the treble side upper bout area. There appears to be one small side crack as well. With all this wear, you would expect to see far more cracks!
The original bridge, pickguard, tuners and bridge plate are there. A new saddle was installed, likely when the neck was reset. The original saddles and bridge pins are in the case. A small, extra piece of maple was added to the bridge plate, likely due to wear caused by ball ends of the strings. Inside shots show this work and the fact that there are no ham-handed repairs under the hood.
The back, sides and back of the neck have definitely been oversprayed. The top likely was as well, though either to a lesser degree or perhaps just in a French polish style as it feels lighter than the other finish work.
The fretboard is ebony, and it looks quite clean as compared tot he top. I assume that the entire fretboard was replaced, including new frets of course, due to the fact that the original fretboard must have been deeply grooved beyond use.
As stated above, the guitar sounds fantastic, with that balance you get from a 000. It is light and resonant, despite the finish work. It plays beautifully as well, with perfect action and nice fret work.
A nice, non original hard case is included.
